IITA/NACGRAB PROSSIVA Project.

IITA–CGIAR has a five-year project named "Program for Seed System Innovation for Vegetatively-propagated crops in Africa" (PROSSIVA), was done alongside other implementing partners including NACGRAB. The PROSSIVA project aims to enhance the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of vegetatively propagated crop (VPC) seed systems in Africa through research and delivery of innovations that will overcome seed system bottlenecks. Dr. Adedotun O. Afolayan is the Institution focal person for NACGRAB.

Yam In Vitro Micro-tuber Experiments.

NACGRAB Tissue Culture Unit is to utilize Tissue Culture methodology to micro-propagate disease-free yam varieties and produce micro-tubers in vitro as part of the novel outputs generated from PROSSIVA Project.

NACGRAB was assigned in the Yam Component of PROSSIVA research project, to use the Conventional Tissue Culture (CTC) technology to carry out research activities to improve the existing protocols for yam micro-propagation and develop new effective protocols for disease elimination, efficient production of in vitro breeder plantlets and micro-tuber as well as handling and storage conditions of different types of yam breeder seeds for optimum viability.
